Adam Fields (work stuff) RSS

This is my blog about work stuff. See this post for discussion of what this blog is about and what I do. I am sometimes (rarely these days) available for consulting work, and always happy to discuss it even if I'm currently very busy. Email me or find me on @fields at twitter or app.net if you need something.

My main focus at the moment is acting as Chief Technologist of Morningside Analytics. We make beautiful maps of the internet, and do segmentation and authority analysis of blogs and social media.

Fair Labor Association Begins Inspections of Foxconn

Apple starts inspections of factories in China. It seems like this sort of thing was actually Apple’s plan for a while. Remember a few years ago when Apple hardware started arriving with tracking information starting in Shenzen? Why do that unless you want to highlight where all of the gadgets are coming from? Prior to that, most Americans had never heard of Shenzen or Foxconn, and now there’s a constant stream of articles about it, people visiting the factories, and public outcry about the working conditions. Some of that is aimed at Apple, but it also seems like something that Apple may have been powerless to fix without the accompanying outcry.
